Nearly 1 in 10 singles in the UK have been victims of catfishing!

Nearly 1 in 10 singles in the UK have been victims of catfishing!

In a world of technology, trends come and go, but one trend that seems to be continuously on the rise is online catfishing. In essence catfishing is when an individual deceives another person either by using a profile that does not reflect who they are in reality, or worse still completely inventing a fictitious person, ultimately bringing heartbreak to unsuspecting Singles and sometimes with intent to defraud and extract money. There is even a popular American TV show called ‘Catfish’

Here in the UK - studies show that 1 in 10 dating profiles online are either completely fake or greatly misleading. A whooping 24% of online catfishers actually pretend to be the opposite gender! Scary right! As we continue to witness the growth of online dating, it’s easy to see why people are a little more apprehensive when it comes to trying to find The One online. Not all profiles are true and accurate. And while some online dating platforms require verification, there are still many others that do not.

According to data collected by ‘Pew research centre’ over half (54%) of singles even admitted their own profiles misinterpreted some of their details.

Problem Solved!

A new online dating service DAYT about to be launched aims to combat this growing problem of online dating deception. DAYT is a new idea originating from long-standing dating brand ‘Coffee and Company’ – who gathered the research in this press release. Owned by leading Match-Maker Lorraine Adams - who has been successfully getting couples together for more than 16 years.

DAYT requires subscribers to provide a 25 second quick-fire question video. The questions have been carefully crafted to extract important aspects of personality traits, but also more importantly to give singles a far more accurate assessment of suitors prior to meeting in person. By utilising popular handset videoing capabilities, singles can send post videos for approval along with details of how they wish to be contacted. Email/social media etc.
