As the oldest of two, Denele has always been viewed as a nonconformist. She speaks her mind and thinks in very unconventional ways. Growing up with a love for all types of music, she uses that as a heavy influence for writing. Her earliest memory of writing dates back to high school but she began to seriously indulge in writing while attending college at Winston-Salem State University. Denele writes about life and believes words are the most important, because whether speaking, reading, listening, or singing, words evoke a multitude of emotions, feelings, and memories. Her poems speak about all aspects of life…love, responsibility, God, friendship, injustice, and temptation. She is transparent and it reflects in her written work. She is unapologetically Denele….God-fearing mother, daughter, friend, teacher, arts enthusiast, activist, poet and optimist.
